So far this is a really really good headset. Every one of the speakers work (as you should expect) and it sounds great. It isn’t the same as “real” 5.1 speakers, but if you can’t have those due to noise real ones would cause then this will be either just as good or better, or both.

I got these because I was tired of not being able to enjoy surround sound whenever I want. I live in an apartment and while my neighbors all have good sound systems as well and don’t mind when I crank mine during the day, at night is where the problem comes up. I work a later shift then most, meaning I’m still wide awake until 2-3 in the morning while everyone else is asleep. So watching some mind blowing movie or playing a game on my computer was limited to headphones during then. And until now I’d just being using everything from bargain bin $10 headphones up to the Sony XB700’s. Which is fine and dandy if I was happy with stereo on something I know is surround sound.

Now, for movies, these things are nice. Not as good as a real speaker setup as far as the surround sound feeling goes, but they work. And what I love most about them is The independently adjustable volumes. I like it because almost all movies do this annoying thing where the voice’s of the actors comes out the center speaker at like 100% and only an ambient echo of the rear and maybe 50% or less of their volume from the left and right. While the music will be going at 100% from all the speakers BUT the center at the same time. Normally when this is down-mixed to stereo, it causes music to be irritably loud compared to the voices. So I can barely understand what they are saying sometimes with all the background music going on. Well with these headphones you can turn down all that other channel and leave the center speaker wide open and be able to hear the dialog with absolute clarity. Over all they are great for movies and do a good job of reproducing a normally sized room on your ears.

For video games… o.m.g. Love it. Absolutely amazing. This is where these things shine. First, the mic is great. its easy to move and put into position and picks up you voice perfectly with little background noise (like if you’re me and have a fan near the computer). As for the sound, its awesome. I’ll admit its not the same as a real surround sound, but let me tell you this, it does a great job of making you think its surround sound. For example, I was playing Crysis 2 and at one point there was a tv on in the game. When I was facing the TV it sounded like it was in front of me. If I turned around in the game, the sound would move around my head and then sounded like it was coming from behind me. If that isn’t good surround sound, I don’t know what is. But that’s just one example among hundreds. These things are awesome for games. Period.

After trying several other high end corded headsets, the TB Z6A is by far the best I’ve owned. Sound quality is amazing and the mic works great. Out of 10 points, with 10 being the highest I would rate this headset as follows:

    In-game sound = 10 (MW3 sound is awesome!)
Music sound = 10 (pleasantly suprised)
    5.1 Surround Sound = 10
Control Unit = 9 (works great but it’s a little too close to the headset and requires you to clip it onto yourself)
Microphone = 10 (someone else mentioned it would be nice if it was detachable, I disagree. It folds up easily and the fancy SoundBlaster headset I had with the detachable mic failed at that connection)
Comfort = 9 (design keeps ears cool; I’m not really sure a 10 exists)

    Pro’s – SOUND!, cool ears
Con’s – control pod is too close to the headset. You have to actually clip it to your pocket as opposed to having it sit on your desk. Adding another 12″ of cord between the headset and pod would help.

Bottom line…I would highly recommend this headset!
